• Parameters that CANNOT be determined by spirometry are: RV (Residual Volume), FRC (Functional Residual Capacity)  and TLC (Total Lung Capacity).

For these the other methods used are:

1. Nitrogen washout method 
2. Helium dilution method 
3. Body plethysmography (best method).
